Miles Ahead Sports was founded by Bruce and Sharon Robinson. They were high school sweet hearts who vacationed at the Jersey Shore and enjoyed outdoor activities. Bruce and Sharon spent a few years in the Washington DC area before settling down in Manasquan, New Jersey.

While vacationing at the Jersey Shore in the summer months they came upon an abandoned print shop which was located next door to their cousins ice cream stand (The Circle Feeze). Without much planning and throwing caution to the wind they put down a deposit and rented the retail store front and began selling running shoes. Bruce was a full-time sales rep promoting his business, waiting on customers, researching the latest running technology and products while Sharon took care of the ordering, kept the books and juggled the financial aspect of running the store.

"It was the 1980's, the running community was small. If you saw a runner on the road in those days chances were you knew who they are. They would often ask me for advice about various races and equipment. As a result, many of my friends became customers and many of my customers became friends." ~ Bruce Robinson

Bruce developed a reputation for himself as an exceptionally talented runner. He competed in many of the local 5 miles races which were quickly gaining popularity throughout the shore area. In addition to running in local races Bruce made a name for himself as a tri-athlete. After he mastered running he concentrated his efforts on triathlons, competing in Hawaii's Iron Man Triathlon on several occasions.

Within the next few years, business flourished and the staff at Miles Ahead Sports earned a reputation as a place where runners could talk to runners. Here they can discuss the type of shoe that would best fit their running style. The Miles Ahead staff prides themselves on their ability to make a full analysis of the runner and their needs before they make a recommendation of a running shoe. Many injuries can be directly associated with inadequate shoes. In short, the right shoe prevents injury and makes running a much more enjoyable experience.
